Forex Laboratory

There's a LOT of forex traders out there and we need some more conversation going on in this forex forum. I know you all have a lot more to say about it. So, in that spirit I'm kicking off this thread in hopes some of you who trade the GBPUSD will start posting your analysis, your approach, how you trade this highly popular currency pair. Anything to do with GBPUSD. And, if you prefer the EURUSD, or the EURJPY or you name the pair, how about starting a new thread to discuss that one and let's start sharing thoughts/trades/experiences on these pairs?

Like most of you, I get bombarded with emails promoting forex trading EA plugins.

They promise the moon, whether it's 99% winning trades, or turning $1000 to $100,000 in no time at all. I've heard they tend to sell hundreds to thousands at a time - quite a business.

Of course, we know where all that leads in reality -- as virtually all of these tend to be over-optimized, curve fit systems that have settings that are customized with the benefit of hindsight and they typically fall apart going forward.

I would like to know from any of you -- have you used any of these EA's with any success? Or, if you have used any that were a total failure weigh in on that as well. Might save a few people from buying it as well.....

I'm newer on trade.
I've a problem. I have an old Tradestation prosuite 2000i and i wish to do backtesting on my FOREX data, but i don't know how to set the correct parameter.
e.g ( for 1 lot 100000 with pips value 10) how:
Daily limit? Min.Move? Point Value?
and PLEASE, in "Format Strategy" (Tradestation) how to set:
Commission (per Unit or per Transaction)?
Slippage (...)?
Margin (...)?
and... in "Default trade amount" what must I insert?
and ...in "Maximum open entries per position"? and "Maximum contract/shares per position"?
Please, please, help me!

What are your thoughts?

I've been researching ECN forex brokers, and I've almost decided on MB Trading.

I have the following list of criteria (which MB Trading seems to meet):

• No dealing desk
• Straight through processing
• Full-time ECN
• CFTC registered FCM
• NFA member
• 100:1 leverage
• Competitive execution, spreads, commissions, etc.

My questions for this thread...is there any particular reason why anyone would recommend not going with MB Trading? Is there any ECN forex broker that anyone would recommend over MB Trading for any particular reason?

I have spent a lot of time researching when are the very best times of day to trade various markets. Forex or futures - it always amazes me how different the results can be, literally at times hour by hour.

I've seen trade results double, or fall into the red just by moving from one hour to the next.

I'm curious if any of you experience the same?

Of course most of us who trade actively no some basics like ignoring lunch hours, or low volume, but I think it goes deeper than that.

I currently trade with Oanda. It is well known that Oanda spikes their spreads around news events.

I currently trade the EUR/USD from 8:20AM - 3PM Eastern Time. During those hours the spread usually spikes multiple times, resulting in anywhere from 5-10 tick spreads for a few moments.

I'm not caught off guard...I monitor 3 separate economic calendars and make sure I'm out of the market for any news labeled "high impact," "market moving," "high importance," etc.

However, I do miss out on opportunity due to the fact that several times during the day I can't participate.

So, my question is:

I opened up their demo once, still only trade currency futures, but this is as good of an excuse as any to go to Vegas.

$340 seems ok for all sessions in avi, but not sure if he is legit.
